Claudio Ranieri has backed Watford's record signing Ismaila Sarr to rediscover his form, after another difficult afternoon for the winger away at Arsenal.

The Senegalese attacker cut a frustrated figure out on the flank, as he did in the defeat to Southampton the previous week, while his substitution against Everton two weeks before was followed by a reaction that saw the Hornets score four goals.

Sarr remains the club's top scorer this season, with four goals from 11 games, but has not found the net in the last five matches.

Asked if the player was lacking confidence, the head coach said Sarr could do more, but that he was sure he would be back to his best again before long.

"I know Ismaila, everybody appreciates him and I know he can do more," said Ranieri.

"He is working very well during training sessions and then I think very soon he will come back to show his good football, I’m very confident with him."

Despite a 1-0 defeat at the Emirates, Ranieri felt that his players showed plenty to be encouraged about.

"I know we lost too many matches but I'm very convinced we're building our foundation," he said.

"My players are starting to learn my philosophy and we are in a good point. Of course we have to save more when we play against the big teams. We have to try to be more calm when we go on the counter."
