Watford's scheduled match against Burnley at Turf Moor was postponed at just over two hours' notice on Wednesday after a Covid outbreak in the Hornets' camp.

Questions have been raised as to why it took so long for the announcement to be made, with supporters travelling up to Lancashire from Watford to watch the fixture.

The Hornets made the trip up on Tuesday night, and are understood to have stayed at Crow Wood, just outside of the town.

The Watford Observer has learnt that by around 2pm the club were aware of the situation and a meeting was held with the Premier League over the potential postponement at around 4pm.

While details remain sparse regarding the outbreak, it has now thrown into question whether or not Saturday's game against Crystal Palace will be able to go ahead.

Club sources have said it is too early for a decision to have been made on that just yet.

There are understood to be have been no Covid cases among the Burnley camp, with the Clarets already at Turf Moor when they learnt of the postponement.
