Oxhey Jets had to survive a nervous ending as they hung on for a thrilling 5-4 victory at Crawley Green in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division on Saturday.

After going behind, Jets led 4-1 at the interval and then 5-2 in the second half, only for their hosts to battle back and have opportunities to snatch a point in injury time.

Crawley struck first but were pegged back when Theo Costa converted after being set up by Sean Giordmaina.

The supplier turned scorer to put Jets in front before Tom Inch made it 3-1 after the referee had played advantage.

Jets looked to have wrapped the points up by the interval when Jake Tabor netted their fourth, but Crawley came out strongly after the break and reduced the deficit to 4-2.

The visitors soon restored their three-goal cushion when man-of-the-match Giordmaina netted his second of the afternoon.

However, an error from keeper Brad Shaw gave Green renewed hope and they reduced the deficit to one goal by scoring a late fourth.

Jets held on but only after Shaw had made two good saves in injury time to see his side over the line.

The victory leaves Jets ninth in the table ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Harefield United.
