Cucho Hernandez has thanked Watford and their fans in a farewell statement after completing his move to Columbus Crew.

The Colombian forward has moved to the MLS side for a fee believed to be $10.5m, having scored five goals in the Premier League last season.

In a statement released on social media, the 23-year-old thanked the Hornets for fulfilling his dream of playing in the top flight of the English game, called his debut when he scored against Aston Villa “a perfect day” and praised the supporters “who supported us until the last moment.”

The statement reads: “These moments are never easy but it’s time to say goodbye. Every footballer dreams of playing in the Premier League and I have fulfilled that dream here. I will always remember my Watford debut – a perfect day when I was able to score my first goal for the club. I’m proud to have worn this shirt. Please know that I gave everything every time I defended these colours.
