Tom Dele-Bashiru has suffered another knee ligament injury but manager Rob Edwards is hoping this one will not be as serious.

The midfielder broke down with the original injury in October 2020 and missed the remainder of the campaign after undergoing surgery.

He spent last year on loan at Reading, gaining both playing time and building up fitness, and was all set for a starring role with the Hornets this time around.

That though has been put on hold, at least temporarily.

Edwards said: "I’ll be without Tom Dele-Bisharu who has unfortunately injured his knee. He has some ligament damage and will be missing for a couple of months.

"He had a long-term one before but with this one, we think it will only be a few months.

"That’s still really disappointing for him, nobody wants to be injured even for a week.

"He had started really well. He’s had a great pre-season, he was working hard and was starting to show some real qualities.

"It’s a shame to be without him for a period of time but mentally he is tough, he has got through it before and worse.

"We’ll support him fully and the club will do everything to make sure he comes back and comes back stronger.

"He’ll certainly be hungry to get back in and impress.

"You never want injuries as a coach, players certainly don’t, but the fact is they do happen and sometimes it is no-one's fault, sometimes it is the way people land."

The boss revealed though that other than the 22-year-old and Imran Louza, who is "on his way back", he has a full squad to choose from for the game against Burnley.
