Rob Edwards says the signing of Hamza Choudhury will be a huge boost to the club off the field as well as on it.

The 24-year-old joined on a season-long loan on Wednesday from Leicester City, with Watford also having an option to buy.

Another clause has no recall option meaning he will be at Vicarage Road for the full campaign.

And the Watford boss has been impressed with what he has seen of the man, never mind the ability he has as a footballer.

Edwards said: "He will bring a real pedigree. He’s first of all an outstanding young person, a really good guy.

"We were speaking to him in the build-up and then met properly over the last couple of days.

"He will help us and will bring a lot of qualities.

"He’s an outstanding athlete, he’s very good with the ball and he’s tenacious and selfless in his work.

"That energy and desire he has, he plays on the edge in a good way. I love that about him.

"We’ve all worked together on this but he’s someone who were very keen to bring in, especially with losing Tom [Dele-Bisharu].

"That probably sped things along a little."

Choudhury has been with the Foxes since the age of seven and has made 84 appearances in the first-team since making his debut against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup in September 2017.

His first league game came before that in another loan spell, this one with Burton Albion, while his Premier League debut was in November of 2017 against Tottenham Hotspur.

He also has an FA Cup winners' medal from Leicester's success over Chelsea in 2021.

One man likely to leave Vicarage Road though is Brazilian defender Samir, with a move to Tigres in Mexico the probable destination.
