Rob Edwards has confirmed Watford have not received a bid for Ismaila Sarr while the offer that came in from Newcastle United for Joao Pedro “was not anywhere near the level that we’d expect”.

Speculation about the Hornets pair has intensified since Tuesday following claims that Crystal Palace were preparing to make a move for Senegal winger Sarr, while reports continue that Newcastle are set to improve their offer for the Brazilian after seeing their opening approach in the region of £20million rejected.

Speaking at his press conference ahead of Saturday’s trip to Preston, the Hornets head coach said: “The situation with Isma is pretty clear. We’ve not had a bid from anyone.

“There has a been a bid in for Joao that’s been talked about. It’s not anywhere near the level that we’d expect it to be for him, but I’m involved in that conversation and if anything else was to come in again we’ll sit down and talk about it as a club and as a board.”

Sarr missed Tuesday’s draw at Birmingham City with what was described as a “minor hamstring complaint” and Edwards said: “Where he’s at with fitness is he trained part of the session yesterday which is good. We’ll monitor him and keep assessing him up until Saturday’s game.”
