Striker Keinan Davis is ruled out of tomorrow’s game at Wigan, midfielder Hamza Choudhury may be fit enough to face the Latics while club captain Tom Cleverley faces a lengthy time on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on his Achilles’ tendon.

Those were the main updates from the training ground this morning ahead of the trip to the DW Stadium tomorrow.

Craig Cathcart, who captained the side in Sunday’s win over derby, has spent a few days training away from the main group having played with some pain during the Luton game. He joined back up with the squad to train today and Bilic is hopeful he’ll be available to him tomorrow.

Mario Gaspar, who was a second-half substitute against Luton, is also training with the main group, while Francisco Sierralta, Kortney Hause and Christian Kabasele are all due to resume training with the squad in the coming days.

Davis came off before the end of the derby victory on Sunday, and although he will miss tomorrow’s game, head coach Slaven Bilic is hopeful of having him available for selection for the trip to Cardiff on Wednesday.

“The injury is to a muscle in the hip area, and I had a similar injury in my career so I know a bit about it,” he said.

“It’s not what I’d call a big injury. He should be out for a week, the maximum 10 days, which means he should be in contention for Wednesday.”

Choudhury told Bilic yesterday that he feels good enough to play on Saturday, but they will know more after training today.

“Hamza hasn’t trained with the main group so far this week, but I spoke to him yesterday and he said he feels good and wants to play. He’ll train today.

“He’s a very important player for us, because he gives us balance, determination, energy and impulse.”

The news for club captain Cleverley is not so good, after he underwent surgery to sort out the ankle problem that has kept him out of action since August.

“Tom is going to be out a long time,” said Bilic, adding that the operation went well and the midfielder will now begin a personalised programme of rehabilitation.

Cleverley had worked with Watford’s medical team on various other ways of dealing with the injury that he picked up earlier in the season in the home win against Burnley.

However, an operation was the only way to fix the issue, and Cleverley had a similarly successful op on his other Achilles’ a few season ago, and so knows it can cure a similar issue.

Fellow midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru played 90 minutes for the Under-21s on Monday, but Bilic said he will need to build up his match fitness with more game time.
