Over £10,000 has been raised for charity, after 114 people took part in a trekking fundraiser organised by Watford FC.

The Watford FC Community Sports and Education Trust's 'Taylor Trek' is named after former manager and chairman Graham Taylor.

The route started and finished at Vicarage Road Stadium, passing key sites from Graham Taylor's history on route.

This included Watford town centre, Cassiobury Park, Abbots Langley, Kings Langley, Watford Museum and the Meriden Community Centre.

Local bakery Wenzels handed out lunch and doughnuts to the trekkers, during the event.

The former Hornets manager's widow, Rita Taylor, presented medals following the trek.

Podcaster Mike Parkin commented: "We have completed the Taylor Trek 2022, made it to Vicarage Road, and received a medal from Rita Taylor.

"(What) a fantastic finale! A lovely way to round off a nicely thought-out route.

"The whole ethos of Watford and the community club was never far from (our minds), and it was a really rewarding day.

"I fully recommend as many people as possible to do it, it’s great fun and for a worthy cause.”

The club's Community Sports and Education Trust conducted a survey following the event.

According to the Trust, 91% of respondents said that they’d take part again next year, 100% rating the event as either 'Excellent' or 'Good'.

After the event, one trekker said: "It was just brilliant to be part of the great experience and to be part of Graham Taylor who started it all."

Another added: "The route took us through parts of the area I never knew, despite living around the area all my life ... I'm 55!”
