Keinan Davis will be part of the squad for the game with Coventry tomorrow while Hamza Choudhury also returns after serving his one-match suspension.

The return of Davis, who has scored four in his last seven games, is a boost for head coach Slaven Bilic, but he also explained that another on-loan Aston Villa player – Kortney Hause – is still not fully fit.

“Choudhury obviously comes back after his suspension, and Davis should be okay to play also,” said Bilic.

Bachmann stresses the need to 'sort out' slow starts

“Kalu we will wait and see after today. None of the other injured players will be available.

“Keinan is obviously very important to us. Bayo has had a couple of decent games, lots of running and fighting, and created a couple of chances too.

“But Keinan is our main striker, and today is the first time we’re going to see him back working with the main group. He’s been working away from us but yesterday after training he said he felt good and was very positive.

“He’s good to go, and the decision is whether he starts or not.”

Hause was an unused substitute at Wigan but didn’t feature at all at Cardiff, prompting questions whether the defender had suffered some sort of setback.

“It’s not a case of him having a setback,” explained Bilic.

“He wasn’t on the bench at Wigan because he was fully fit, he was there because we didn’t have enough defenders for that game. Basically he was there just in case something happened to both centre backs.

“He has an issue with his knee and he is not fully fit. He still has some pain in his knee and that is stopping him from proper training and being 100% fit for games.

“On paper he is one of the top defenders we have, but unfortunately he can’t get to the fitness level he wants. I trust him, I believe him, but the way the knee has been treated so far hasn’t brought him any closer to the level he wants, and the level that is required.

“At Wigan we had no Cathcart or Kabasele, so no back up. I asked him to be there for us, and if we needed it for him to come on and do a job.”

Another of the injured defenders, Craig Cathcart, is edging his way back to fitness but Bilic decided to take the Northern Ireland international out of his plans for a block of games to allow him to get back to match readiness.

“Cathcart is getting much better. We didn’t want to go to a position where he could play one game but then miss the next one. So we decided to make a proper break as he is too precious to us.

“I want him fit for the long term so I would rather not have him for the short term, especially as we have Sierralta back. So I said let’s forget it for three games with the aim for him to be pain-free and have no issues in the long term.

“That was my decision, and yesterday he told me that he trained and ran without any pain. He’s not ready for tomorrow, but we’ll see on Tuesday.

“So we are coping without him for a few games but in the knowledge that he will be fit long term, and hopefully until the end of the season.”

The midweek win at Wigan left a few bumps and bruises around the dressing room, but nothing that worries Bilic.

“We have a few players who are complaining about a few issues, but they are not big things and it’s more because it’s only two days after we last played a game,” he said.

“We’ve had injuries since my first game at Stoke. We had no full-backs on the right, then a shortage of centre backs.

“Then we had a shortage of strikers. It’s been the issue from the beginning and so from day one the World Cup break has been what we have looked towards, because after that players should be back.

“Ok, Tom Cleverley we knew would be long term and then Imran Louza got injured, but players like Manaj and Ngakia should be back during the World Cup break.

“There is a lot of light at the end of the tunnel. We will have a really deep squad, in terms of quality and quantity, during the break.”
