A café that has been adored by Watford FC fans for 40 years has confirmed it is set to close this month.

Domenic’s Café in Vicarage Road revealed the news yesterday evening (January 5) – sparking swathes of heartbreaking messages online.

In a social media post, the café’s owners wrote: “To all our loyal and amazing customers from over the years, friends and family.

“Domenic’s Café will be closing its doors at the end of January 2023. This has not been an easy decision to make.

“It’s been an honour to be part of Watford’s history and of this great community.

"We want to thank you all for your loyal custom over the years, the cafe has not only been a business or a place of work, it has been a place for people to become friends and for friends to become family.

"Once again Thank You. All the best from Domenic, Nicky, Frank, Rita and Luisa and Family.1983-2023.”

One fan responded: “This is absolutely gut wrenching!!! Been coming for pre match grub since you pretty much opened.

"Even when we lived overseas for 5 years in Abu Dhabi we always made a point of coming in for a meal when we were back in Watford.”

Another wrote: “I am lost for words. Actually I am crying. Your Café was the highlight of our day out to the football. As we no longer live in our beloved Watford our 156-mile round trip was made possible by our visit to you. My Darling Dad especially who passed away 2 years ago. I came on my own before games and it gave me happy memories.”

Domenic’s Café has been contacted for more information. Updates to follow.
