A dedicated coach who has inspired thousands of swimmers has been recognised for her outstanding service to the sport.

Josie Hoare, who is Watford Swimming Club’s Head of Development and County 8 coach, has been awarded the Swim England Hertfordshire President’s Plate.

The accolade is awarded annually at the sole discretion of the President and is given for conspicuous service to Swim England Hertfordshire.

Bryan Thompson, Swim England Hertfordshire President for 2022/23, presented Josie with the award at a club training session.

Josie said:“I hate to have a fuss made of me, for me it’s all about the swimmers and doing what I can to help them learn and grow. But it really is an honour to receive the wonderful award.”

Her lifetime contribution to swimming started early when she competed at a high level as a junior swimmer, she even went on to successfully swim the English Channel as part of a relay team in 1999.

Josie’s passion turned to coaching when she began her teaching journey with Brent Dolphins, where she volunteered to coach the Development Squad. In 2002 she became Assistant Head Coach at the City of St Albans SC, moving on to become Head Coach, where she remained until she joined Watford SC in 2008. Josie is also Head Coach of St Albans Masters Swimming Club.

Jeremy Irvine, Watford Swimming Club President, said: “Josie has inspired thousands of swimmers as our County Development coach at Watford Swimming Club. She has the unique ability to nurture and boost her swimmers so they reach their full potential.

“We are proud and thrilled that her dedication has been recognised and that she has received such a prestigious award”.
