Watford Women will begin the new Barclays Women’s Championship season with a home game against Durham on Sunday August 27.

Damon Lathrope’s side were promoted back to the second tier last season after winning the promotion play-off decider against Nottingham Forest at Stadium MK.

Their second game of the season sees them make the relatively short journey to face London City Lionesses on Sunday September 3.

The Golden Girls’ second home game of the season will be on Sunday September 17 when they host Blackburn Rovers.

One of the most significant tests for the Hornets will come on Sunday October 22 when they travel to face Birmingham City, who finished second last season just a point behind Bristol City, who were promoted.

On Sunday November 12, Watford travel to Reading, who were the team relegated from the Super League at the end of last season.

As well as starting the season at home, Watford are also due to end the campaign on their own patch with Reading scheduled to visit on Sunday April 28.

Watford Observer:

There will be international breaks during the season, and the first of five windows comes between Monday September 18 and Tuesday September 26.

The Hornets also return to the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup this year, with the competition being contested between sides from the Women's Super League and Championship. The group stage for the Conti Cup kicks off in midweek, Wednesday October 11 and Thursday October 12.

Now they have been promoted, Watford enter the Vitality Women’s FA Cup in the third round, which will be played on Sunday December 10.

As in 2022/23, Watford will play their home fixtures at Wealdstone FC’s Grosvenor Vale throughout the coming season, and all fixture are subject to change.

It was an unforgettable 2022/23 season for the Women, and the perfect antidote to relegation 12 months earlier.

They secured the National League Southern Division title on the last day of the season, winning 3-0 at Billericay while Oxford United lost at Ipswich Town.

That set up a winner-takes-all play-off against Northern Division winners Nottingham Forest, who had beaten Watford a few weeks earlier in the League Cup Final.

Some 2,000 Hornets fans made the trip to Stadium MK on Saturday May 20 to see Poppy Wilson head home the only goal of the game after 17 minutes to secure a return to the Championship at the first attempt.
