Striker Shaq Forde suffered incredible bad luck last night as he was injured in the warm-up on what would have been his debut on loan for Leyton Orient.

The 19-year-old joined the League One side on a season-long deal earlier this week, and immediately went into the squad for last night’s game at Wycombe Wanderers.

Forde was named among the substitutes for the game at Adams Park, but then a late change was announced and he was replaced on the bench by Harrison Sodje.

After the game, which the East London club lost 3-2, Orient’s goalkeeping coach Simon Royce spoke to the media and confirmed Forde was injured.

“In 33 years in the game, I’ve never known anything like it: a team picking up so many injuries at the start of the season,” he said.

“I don’t know the extent of the injury, I’m not a physio. He was running uncomfortable to his ankle but I haven’t spoken to the physio about what it is.

“I don’t think it’s too bad.”

Forde had a successful loan spell at Kings Langley earlier in his career, and was Watford’s Young Player of the Season for the 2021/22 season.

Last season he joined York on loan in December 2022 and enjoyed a prolific spell in front of goal with nine strikes in 20 appearances.

He became Orient manager Richie Wellens’ 10th signing of the summer when he moved to Brisbane Road this week.

Wellens, and his assistant Paul Terry, were both shown red cards after the final whistle of last night’s game.
