Consecutive victories against Notts County and Tranmere Rovers made October 1994 a good month for Watford at home – but off the pitch a development of bigger long-term significance was beginning to take shape at Vicarage Road.

A Watford Observer photographer was back at Vicarage Road almost three months later as the metal structure for a new stand accommodating almost 7,000 fans was being put in place.

It would be another six months until the new South Stand – as it was originally called – was opened with a 1-0 victory against Bristol City in April 1995.
