A referee is set to take charge of his first game involving Watford for more than a year after being appointed as the man in the middle for the Hornets’ last game before the third international break of the season.

Stephen Martin has been selected as the referee for Saturday’s home Championship fixture against Rotherham United.

The Staffordshire official last officiated a match involving Watford in September 2022 when he was referee for the dismal 2-0 defeat at Blackburn Rovers.

Martin has been busy with his cards this season, showing a total of 44 yellows and one red in his seven league and cup matches to date. He has issued at least eight cautions in three of those games.

Mark Dwyer and Robert Hyde are due to be the assistant referees for the 3pm kick-off, with Andy Davies on fourth official duties.
