A last-gasp hat-trick clinching header from James Barnett snatched a 3-3 draw for Oxhey Jets but there was little to celebrate after they squandered a two-goal interval lead at home to Brook House on Saturday.

A first-half brace from the striker had put the hosts seemingly in control of their Combined Counties League Division One clash, only for their latest Jekyll and Hyde performance to see the tables turned completely by the 65th minute as Brook House went 3-2 up.

Jets finally rallied in the closing stages and they snatched a point deep into injury time when Olly Pope’s superb corner was headed home by Barnett to grab a point which leaves Jets tenth in the table.

It had all started so well for Jets with Barnett steering home the opener in the fourth minute after he was set up by Dylan Hickman-Singh following a fine pass by Andre Lopes.

However, the hosts were not looking secure at the back and needed keeper Lewis Lavin to keep them in front before the lead was doubled in the 31st minute when Hickman-Singh again cut the ball back for Barnett to convert.

Jets were not at their best in the first half, but some good attacking play at times and the quality of their finishing saw them retain their two-goal lead at the break.

Brook House made a triple change at the start of the second period and it paid instant results as Harrison Woods equalised two minutes after the restart.

This changed the complexion of the game completely as the home side went into retreat as they were out-worked, out-thought and out-played by their opponents.

Brook House’s efforts paid off in the 63rd minute when they were awarded a penalty for handball after a long delay – much to Jets’ fury – and Jacob Adeyemi converted from the spot.

Things went from bad to worse for the home side two minutes later when Woods scrambled the ball over the line after a corner had caused chaos in the area.

There was no instant response from Jets and any hope looked to be increasingly lost until they finally lifted themselves in the closing stages.

The hosts felt they were denied a clear penalty when Hickman-Singh was upended in the area, leading to a sin bin yellow card for the player after a number of his teammates ran protesting towards the referee.

Down to ten men, Jets threw everything at Brook House in stoppage time, winning a succession of corners which ultimately led to Barnett heading in the late, late leveller.
