Oxhey Jets had to show a different side to their game at play-off hopefuls Molesey, coming from 2-0 down at half-time to draw 2-2 against a team that had only lost once all season at home.

Individual mistakes have been Jets’ nemesis all season, and Saturday was no exception as with only four minutes gone a dreadful cross-field ball was easily intercepted by the Molesey centre forward to make it 1-0 in the Combined Counties League Division One clash.

Another error led to the home side doubling their lead after 36 minutes when Jets were again punished after being caught in possession in their own penalty area.

Despite being two goals to the good, Molesey appeared edgy with the amount of possession their opponents were having and the hosts went down to ten men, due to a sin bin offence, for the last few minutes of the half.

Boosted by a positive team talk at the interval, Jets attacked the second half with renewed belief.

And that approach was rewarded when Craig Stephen-Lett and Danny Fowler combined to pierce the home defence, sending James Barnett clear. Although going slightly wide, the striker was charged over in the back and the referee pointed to the spot.

Owen Ayres took over as Jets’ leading scorer after slotting the penalty away well despite the keeper going the correct way.

Jets were now in all-out attack mode and it looked like they’d levelled when a superb Fowler delivery was met powerfully by Barnett, but the keeper somehow kept it out by the angle of post and bar.

It was a stunning save but that description also applied to Jets’ second goal when it did arrive after 80 minutes, Andre Lopes drawing back his foot after a Barnett lay-off to bend a rocket into the top corner from outside the area for a fantastic equaliser.

The visitors continued to pile forward in search of a winner but a few chances ended with scuffed shots when composure was needed.

Molesey finished the match with ten men following a sending off for kicking out but they were able to hold on for the point.
