Only the three clubs relegated from the Premier League spent more than Watford on agents’ fees in the 12 months between February 1, 2023, and February 1, 2024.

Figures released this afternoon by the FA reveal that Watford paid agents a total of £4,693,267 in that period.

The documents released also show that Jeremy Ngakia has signed an ‘updated’ contract, which suggests he has agreed a new deal as has been rumoured - as yet that, and the length of the new contract, haven't been confirmed by the club.

There were a total of 20 agent transactions for Watford in the 12 months, meaning they paid an average of £234,663.

However, as some of the transactions involved younger players at the club, it’s likely a number of them were significantly above the average amount.

The different transactions include:

- Contract cancelled

- Permanent transfer in

- New registration (new contract or free agents)

- Updated contract

- Permanent transfer out

- Loan in

- Loan out

Of course, the name that everyone looks for in the list of Watford dealings is Mogi Bayat, although in the FA document he is listed under his actual name of Arnaud Bayat.

He was involved in three of the deals:

- Transfer out of William Troost-Ekong

- Transfer out of Ismaila Sarr

- Loan in of Emmanuel Dennis

The three club relegated from the top division spent significantly more than the Hornets: Leeds (£13,287,748); Leicester (£8,113,789); Southampton (£7,537,386).

After Watford, the next highest spenders were Norwich (£4,276,648), while the average spend of the 24 Championship clubs was £2,555,865.
