Skipper Chris Munroe hailed a “massive achievement” after Aldenham Cricket Club were crowned Herts Village Trophy champions for the third year running after a dominant performance at this year's T20 finals day at Knebworth on Sunday.

The village saw off Offley and Stopsley in the final to lift the trophy, having beaten tournament favourites Flamstead in the semi-final in the morning.

"Taking home the trophy three years in a row is a massive achievement for a small club like ours,” said Munroe after the triumph. “Just a few years ago we weren't even playing league cricket, so to dominate this tournament against some of the bigger clubs in the area has been outstanding.

"We have a great atmosphere at Aldenham and it was shown today by the incredible support from family, friends and other club members. We'll be taking that support into our final league game this weekend and hoping we can produce another good display."

Bowling first in the final, The A's restricted Offley to just 112 off their 20 overs thanks to a clinical display in the field.

Opening quick Amit Chakriwarti, the club's leading wicket taker this season, produced a fine performance, taking 2-6 in his four-over spell.

He was well supported by swing specialist Charlie Munroe at the other end, who delivered figures of 1-18 as Aldenham suffocated the Offley openers.

Offley's Evett went on the counter attack at number three, scoring an impressive 64 from just 34 balls.

But he was eventually stumped by A's keeper Itty Haque, who gave a superb display with the gloves, delivering four stumpings and one run out across the finals day.

Offley's 112 proved to be well short of par on a good batting surface, and Aldenham made light work of the run chase.

Munroe brothers Chris and Charlie put on 73 in a bullish opening partnership that removed any hopes of an Offley revival.

The captain carried his bat for a majestic 61 not out off 42 balls that included six fours and two maximums, allowing Aldenham to finish the job in the 13th over with the loss of just four wickets.

Earlier in the day, Aldenham won a tough semi-final against Flamstead, who sit four divisions higher than the eventual champions.

The A’s batted and got off to a low-key start, reaching 66-3 off their first ten overs, before an explosive partnership between Basil Letts and Karan Barot saw the batting side put on 130 runs in the second half to take the game away from their opponents.

Letts, in at three, went on the offensive, blasting 88 runs in just 67 balls in a typically classy display alongside Aldenham stalwart Barot, who finished on 65 not out off 31 balls.

Chasing 196 for victory, Flamstead never got up with the run rate and lost wickets regularly, eventually falling for 124 in the 16th over.

Scalps for Charlie Munroe, Raj Chandel, Tim Hale, Sheikh Ahmed and Barot secured the win and a place route to an historic hat-trick of trophies.

Aldenham will be looking to add to their silverware on Saturday as they push to be crowned league champions in Division 6b of the Saracens League, where they currently sit second behind Old Elizabethans.
