There is no truth whatsoever in rumours that Watford are looking to add the former Swansea City sporting director Paul Watson to their senior leadership team.

Watson, who was also chief operating officer at Luton Town for five years, has been linked with a move to Vicarage Road in online stories and on social media.

However, The Watford Observer has been guided that there is absolutely no fact behind the reports.

Watson was appointed as Swansea's sporting director in the summer of 2023 but departed from the Welsh club in October 2024.

Chairman Andy Coleman said at the time: “I would like to extend our thanks to Paul for his work during his time with us. We wish him every success for the future.

"The club will update in due course regarding recruitment plans for the position.

"In the meantime, Paul’s responsibilities will be handled by the existing football department staff."

Watson arrived at the Swans only a few days after Michael Duff had been appointed as Russell Martin’s successor, and it is understood Watson was involved in making that decision.

Duff was to last just 19 games at Swansea, sacked after winning only five of those fixtures.

Watson remained, but was among those criticised for the club's transfer activity during the 2023 summer transfer window - with few of Swansea's signings impressing and many deemed not suited to the club's preferred style of play.

The transfer business occurred despite Watson later claiming the recruitment structure at the club was not up to the required standard upon his arrival in south Wales.

After joining Luton in 2018 as general operations manager, he went on to be promoted to chief operating officer midway through the 2021/22 season.

During his time at Kenilworth Road, Watson proved a key figure behind the scenes as the Hatters climbed the Football League, culminating in their promotion to the Premier League back in May 2024.
