West Herts Cricket through to knockout stages of 20/20

The top 16 teams in Hertfordshire compete to find who will represent the County in the National ECB competition.

West Herts were drawn against Championship side Redbourn in the first round. Electing to field first, the Stags soon had the Redbourne batters  in trouble. They were unable to get any momentum going against the West Herts spin attack and finished their 20-over allocation with the modest total of 87-5.

In reply, some careless batting by West Herts resulted in a flurry of wickets with them losing 5 before overhauling their target.

In the next round, west Herts faced Radlett. Once again they were in the field and were faced by a blistering opening partnership by Hertfordshire pair Chatfield (43) and Harrison (39). After six overs the score stood at 55 and a large total looked on the cards for the Cobden Hill outfit. However, on the dismissal of Chatfield the innings lost its momentum and the final 14 overs only resulted in the addition of 61 runs for the loss of eight wickets, leaving a total of 116 -8. Once again, the West Herts spinners dominated.

Soon after the West Herts innings began there was a lengthy rain delay and on resumption the revised target was 106 off 18 overs. Fazal (56no) and Shaikh (37 no) then took command of the situation in a masterclass of shot selection and running between the wickets, leaving Radlett stunned as the Stags reached their target in 16.1 overs without losing a wicket.

West Herts will now face another round of games against the remaining three Hertfordshire sides left in the competition to see who represents Hertfordshire in the national competition.
