Hansa fans donate over £500 to Kenny Jackett banner fund

The 6,000 visiting Germans created a memorable atmosphere before and during the game at Vicarage Road on Saturday, and were also generous with their wallets.

The 1881 group had a couple of volunteers with buckets in the fan zones around the ground and also welcomed Hansa supporters into their bunker at the bottom of the Rookery stand before the match.

Between them, The Watford Observer has been told that away fans donated £500 in cash and much more in euros - a figure that will go a long way towards hitting the £5,900 target to produce the banner.

Despite concerns about the club's back-story and political leanings, the atmosphere on Saturday was undeniably one of warmth and co-operation throughout.

Hansa supporters conducted a 'walk-up' to Vicarage Road before kick-off and created a remarkable noise inside the stadium, even as their side were beaten 3-0.

The fundraiser for the banner now sits at over £3,500, well over half of the target figure.

Jackett, a Watford legend, died aged 64 in June and the club are working on ways to honour their former player and coach in the coming weeks.

A brief applause was held ahead of kick-off on Saturday, with a full tribute planned for the opening game of the Championship season against Southampton on Sunday, August 16.
