Heavy rain meant a total wash-out for Watford Town in the Hertfordshire League on Saturday (August 29).

Only two of their five matches could start, involving the 2nd and 5th teams, and they lasted only 20 overs between them, before rain returned and the matches had to be abandoned. Only eight matches were completed across the whole of the Hertfordshire League, out of nearly 300 scheduled.

All the teams are awarded 10 points each and that was enough to guarantee promotion for the club's 4th team. They are sitting in 1st place in division 12 West and now need just nine more points from the final match of the league campaign, to take the title. That match is a big shoot-out against Kings Langley 3rd team, who are 2nd in the table and the only team who can overtake Watford.

Of the other teams going into their final matches this Saturday (September 5), three are hoping to celebrate promotion or divisional titles. Only the 1st team, in division 2B, have nothing to play for, as they take on Eversholt, knowing that they will finish no lower than 6th, whatever the result, but a win could secure 3rd place, depending on results elsewhere. Langleybury took the 2nd promotion place on Saturday, even though their match was abandoned.

The final match for Watford Town 2nds, currently lying 2nd in division 4A, is against Shenley Village 2nds at Woodside. It's a winner-takes-all match, with the two sides separated by just two points and vying for the only remaining promotion place, after Mill Hill Village took the divisional title.

In division 7 West, Town's 3rd team had swapped places with Harpenden 4ths, after beating them comprehensively in their previous match. The victory took them up 3rd place, with Bushey 2nds in their sights, in the runners-up berth, 11 points better off. In their final matches, Town will entertain Dunstable 3rds at Woodside, while Bushey travel to Radlett 3rds, but both could be overtaken by Harpenden IV or Ickleford III, if the climax to the season sees freak results for all those involved.

Watford Town 5ths have already achieved promotion from division 14 West and are top of the table, 27 points ahead of Potten End, their only challengers for the divisional title. Both have away fixtures against mid-table opposition, this Saturday; Town against Redbourn 5ths, with Potten End taking on Hatch End 2nds.
