A MUCH-CHANGED Fullerians outfit still had too much in their locker for Barnet and collected the two points in style after a whirlwind start saw them to a 34-19 win in the London North West Division Three.

A scrum on the halfway line was wheeled by the visitors, but quick thinking by number eight Stuart Gay saw him retrieve the ball, and some impressive unloading in the tackle between the forwards allowed James Phang to squeeze over in the corner for his first try for the club. Centre Tom Clayton converted.

Moments later though, good kicking out of hand by Barnet’s fly-half pinned Fullers in their 22. A line-out on Fullers own five-metre line was taken quickly by Barnet who took full advantage of confusion in the Fullerians defence to score. The conversion was missed.

The home side reverted back to basics and a flowing move was finished off by flanker John Stringer, with Clayton again on target with the extras.

Fullers began to dominate but seemed to panic with the line in sight and were punished by Barnet who won turnover ball and ran the length of the field to score under the Fullers posts to trail by two points going into the break.

A Clayton penalty early in the second-half settled Fullerians nerves and the home side used the wind wisely to keep Barnet turning back to their own 22.

Fullers maintained the pressure on the visitors but were unable to convert this into points, before Alex Sewell barged his way over for the decisive score, converted by Clayton.

Fullers went to sleep from the restart and Barnet immediately responded with a try under the posts. From this restart good chasing down from the Fullers pack allowed for turnover ball and hooker Duncan Paterson used his footballing skills to hack the ball on, re-gather and score under the posts. Clayton converted and added another penalty in injury time.
