Henri Lansbury and Tom Cleverley would both like to extend their stay at Watford beyond January when their loan deals expire.

Hornets boss Malky Mackay has confirmed the club are in discussions with Arsenal and Manchester United over extending the pair's stay in Hertfordshire, but says the decision will be down to the Premier League giants.

When asked whether he would like to remain at Watford beyond December 31, Lansbury said: "Yes, but I have to speak to Arsenal and Watford, if they want to keep me."

Cleverley similarly replied: "I would love to extend my loan – but whatever Sir Alex [Ferguson] says I'll do."

Lansbury, who only turned 19 two weeks ago, excelled on Friday of last week against Sheffield Wednesday, scoring his first two goals for the club and creating another.

The England Under-19 international has mainly played in an advanced position behind Danny Graham in his 12 appearances since arriving in August.

But he believes his impressive display against Wednesday is evidence that his best position is in centre midfield.

"I think that was my best performance since I have been here and I think I have found my best position in centre midfield as well," Lansbury said.

"I have enjoyed playing with the lads and they have helped me settle in well and I enjoyed tonight [last Friday].

"I think it was our best team performance as well and everyone seemed up for it and we showed we can play well as a team."

Lansbury started and finished the second and fourth goals in the victory but despite the superb skill and movement he showed to finish both times, the Enfield-born midfielder was keen to share the plaudits with his team-mates.

He said: "They were good goals but it came from the build up. As a team we played well and luckily I was on the end of it."

Only Cardiff City and Middlesbrough have picked up more points than Watford on the road this season, but home defeats to the Bluebirds and Coventry City going into the game had raised questions over the Hornets form at Vicarage Road.

The 4-1 thumping of Wednesday was the perfect response to the 4-0 defeat by Cardiff and Lansbury said: "It is good that we can turn around and play like that but we know we can play like that and Cardiff was just an off day and we have responded well.

"It was a good team performance and we showed we can play football and when we can mix it up, we look a good team."

Lansbury linked up with Manchester United youngster Cleverley for both of his goals and the pair have subsequently received rave reviews in the media.

"I think we are on the same wavelength and we play well together, so I just hope we can continue," Lansbury said.

"Maybe it helps [both coming from big clubs]. We train together and in training we link up well together and it showed tonight."
