Jamie George will make his first start for Saracens on Sunday when they host Premiership leaders Northampton Saints in the LV= Cup.

The England-Under 20 hooker has made a big impression for Saracens Storm over the last two seasons and will get his chance this weekend against the cup holders.

George, 20, made his debut for the club at Northampton in the same competition last season and first-team coach Mark McCall believes he deserves the opportunity.

McCall said: “He has huge potential and we all know that he will be a part of our first team for years to come. To make the progress he has at the age of 20 shows his quality. It is not easy to step up from Under-20 rugby but he has been able to bridge that gap.”

Saracens will make a number of changes, with captain Steve Borthwick rested, but McCall insists they are taking the competition seriously.

The former Ulster head coach said: “There is always the need to make sure our players are looked after so they are fresh for the key months of March to May when trophies are decided. We take this seriously but it gives us an opportunity to give some other people some matches and look after our players.

“Northampton have a few players away with England but they had a great result last week against Newcastle.

“They have a very strong squad and they’re defending champions so I’m sure they will send a decent side out.”
