Scott Loach played 45 minutes for England Under-21s in their 2-0 defeat to Germany last night as a former Watford midfielder was also required to put on the goalkeeper’s gloves.

Loach, who was a late call-up, was taken off at half time with the score at 1-0, after Konstantin Rausch’s 20-yard strike on 37 minutes.

His replacement Jason Steele lasted just 13 minutes before he was sent off for bringing down Boris Vukcevic in the box.

The Middlesbrough shot-stopper’s departure saw Arsenal midfielder Henri Lansbury pull on the goalkeeper’s top and although he could do nothing about Cenk Tosun’s penalty, the former Watford loanee made a number of decent saves to keep the score at 2-0.
