Saracens’ try-drought, which has seen them go 280 minutes without crossing the line, is a ‘bit of a problem’ admits Men in Black boss Mark McCall.

Sarries brought in England winger Chris Ashton over the summer to try and rectify the issue but the team’s lack of spark and invention has continued.

With just one try in the last four games and none in the last three, coach Mark McCall agrees his side’s lack of penetration is a cause for concern.

“It’s true and it is a little bit of a problem,” he said.

“Last week (against Exeter Chiefs) it was a little bit different because of the conditions but it’s definitely the next string to add to our bow.

“It’s not for want of trying, I thought we were average enough in attack at times today but Harlequins have got a very good defence - Leicester didn’t score a try against them last week either – but we’ll see over the next few weeks how we can improve it.”

Saracens have been playing their home games at a variety of locations as they wait to move to their new home at the Allianz Park in Barnet in the new year.

And McCall suggested playing ‘away’ every week might be a factor in his team’s style of play but backed his players to overcome the challenge.

He said: “I’ve got a squad who came here under a bit of pressure and you have to realise we’re on the road aren’t we? We’re not playing at home until January or whenever it is.

“Some squads would see it as a problem and some would see it as a challenge – we’ve got a squad who like upsetting the apple cart a bit and I’m very proud of them today.”
