A traffic “nightmare” broke out after a man needed medical attention in the Lower High Street, near Bushey Arches.

The Watford road was closed by police while paramedics helped the man, in his 70s, just before 5pm today (September 17).

Police have confirmed that the man has sadly died, and that no vehicles were involved in the medical episode.

Several police cars and at least one ambulance crew were at the scene.

There were delays of up to 20 minutes in Watford following the closure, this was exacerbated by fans leaving the game at Vicarage Road, which ended at the exact same time police reported the closure (4.55pm).

A passer-by said: "Traffic was gridlocked because people are rubber necking and trying to turn left down the road then realising they can’t because it’s shut.

"It's a nightmare."
