When most people think of an Italian restaurant, the thought will conjure up images of al fresco seating on a quaint cobbled street, or a romantic, candlelit venue off a town square.

Not many would immediately think of a business park on the outskirts of Watford, but there will be a small number who do.

That’s because there is a café and restaurant, with exclusively five-star reviews on TripAdvisor, tucked away on Watford Business Park industrial estate.

Tony and Maria’s is one of a number of businesses that share Park House, on Greenhill Crescent.

The eatery counts CreoGlass Design, a company that makes kitchen worktops and splashbacks, and Leatherick, which sells leather vests to bikers, among its neighbours. Across the road is a lighting manufacturer.

But that hasn’t put off those who have eaten there and written a review for TripAdvisor. The restaurant only has nine reviews, and the most recent was in December 2021, but every single one has given it the ‘excellent’ rating of the maximum five stars.

Most of the reviewers express a sense of surprise at how much they enjoyed their respective meals.

In a review entitled ‘wow what a surprise’ Noel Clifford wrote that he found Tony and Maria’s by accident “while looking for another place”. He did say the menu was limited, but added that the food was perfect and he enjoyed a large portion. He said he now gets a takeaway every week.

Another reviewer in November 2021 described the restaurant as a “fantastic find”. They wrote: “Super friendly staff and freshly cooked food. I had the meat feast pizza, which was tasty but some of the pasta dishes of my colleagues caused some food envy! Highly recommended.”

Tony and Maria’s, which according to its website has operated since 1988, is open from Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm, and on Saturdays from 8am until 1pm.

It serves breakfasts, lighter bites like baguettes and sandwiches for lunch, as well as pasta, pizza and burgers. Diners can eat in, as well as pre-order and takeaway.
