A Watford schoolboy who already made the paper for genius level IQ and West End casting is bringing his West End performer band to the atria.

Dylan Mynett, 13, was in the Observer aged five, for scoring high enough on the IQ test to be accepted into Mensa.

Then in 2019 he was cast in a West End play School of Rock where he played the drums, which he has practised since age six.

With the genius level IQ, West End acting, and burgeoning music career on the go, Dylan explained how he manages to keep all his interests together.

He said: “I’m trying to balance the music focus with an academic focus, and a sporting focus to keep healthy, not necessarily for a career but I play quite a bit of football and other sports.

“I really like having a good variety of different things, the music is really fun and really enjoy having all these options open.”

The Parmiters student added: “We wanted to form this band because we are all interested in music maybe even want to have a career in music.

“When I was getting into music, I was really interested in different types of music but especially rock, I love Nirvana and Dave Grohl as a drummer.”

Dad Darren said: “We started suggesting types of music they can play but the majority is all decided by themselves we just try and support what they are doing.

“Over lockdown they were all performing remotely, and we started getting them together again as soon as we could.”

The name New Variants is a play on the new sound they bring, as well as the Covid conditions that lead to their formation.

Bassist Seren Jackson is from London and guitarist Charlie Churchill is from Devon and has already been endorsed by Gibson Guitars.
