Pub fanatics who have reviewed pints at over 1000 boozers have visited and recommended Watford pubs on an enthusiasts website.

The website Pubs Galore doesn’t include as many reviews as sites like Tripadvisor or Google reviews but most of the users have reviewed hundreds if not thousands of drinking holes and are not easy to please.

The Moon Under Water received the most recommendations but had average rating of five and a half out of ten.

One review, from someone who has recommended 1506 pubs, called it a “large and gloomy branch of Wetherspoon’s”.

Recently up for sale fellow High Street Wetherspoons Columbia Press had the same number of recommendations and a slightly higher rating at six and a half.

An older review from a pubgoer with 2833 pubs under their belt remarked on the Watford Observer’s connection to its name and said: “I found this place smart and clean but a little lacking in character which made settling down difficult.”

The Prince George, in St Albans Road, was also a popular spot and had a six out of ten, with its most recent reviewer stopping by this month having logged visiting 7230 pubs.

Other pubs with a good number of recommendations were O’Neill’s, Oddfellows, the White Lion, and the Villiers Arms.

O’Neill’s received five out of ten with the cutting comment “If you get delayed or are waiting for an arrival at Watford Junction, you could pop in for a quick one, but there was little reason for me to linger”

Oddfellows, near Vicarage Road and due to change its name to The Hornets, received a seven.

It was called “a fantastic pub for real ales” by a visitor with one review but only a “a decent enough place for a pint in an area that doesn’t have many pubs” from a trickier experienced reviewer.

The White Lion, in St Albans Road, also got a seven and was labelled a “a good traditional pub”.

The Villiers Arms picked up a seven and was described as “a pleasant traditional pub just a short walk from Bushey train station” while the nearby Victoria received a five and a half with a reviewer this year worrying it was no longer “possibly the least altered in the Watford area” due to a makeover.
