Locals have been left saddened after a takeaway was put up for sale - but its owner says they have not giving up yet.

Bros Barbecue Burger and Shake, in the Whitelands Avenue parade in Chorleywood, which specialises in burgers, steaks, gourmet hot dogs, grilled dishes and milkshakes, is being advertised by Galaxy Real Estate Limited.

The business itself, with a current turnover of £6,500 to £7,500 per week, is available for £120,000 while the rent on the property is £19,000 per year.

Manager Mo Chowdry said: "If we can get new branding, we might be ok to keep running but costs are really high, utilities, rents, wages... it’s very difficult."

He explained that Bros Barbecue, which opened in 2021, is still ok to keep running as normal and is exploring improving branding and advertising, working with other businesses, and other ways to boost the restaurant.

Meanwhile the listing allows the owners, who also own a retail business in Chesham that they need to focus on, to keep their options open.

"If people have the finances to push it up it would be good but we don't have the finances to upgrade now."

According to the listing, the American-style takeaway “has the potential to be converted into a cuisine-based restaurant such as Indian, Chinese, Italian, Mediterranean or other cuisines”.

It adds that the property has “great potential to obtain an alcohol licence which will increase sales by a huge amount”. Getting this licence is among the options Mr Chowdry is exploring.

Locals reacted to the business being put up for sale as one described it as a “shame”, while another added that they “loved” the food.

The manager, 33, was grateful for the support and added that Chorleywood and its locals have been "really nice".

The listing also mentions potentially increasing opening hours, which are currently 4pm to 10pm.
