The second series of a Watford comedian’s sitcom about his life as a local teenager will be filming in the area today.

Abbots Langley Village Café, in High Street, shared a post on social media confirming that it would be closing early this afternoon (June 1) due to filming for Big Boys.

Channel 4, which broadcast the first series and confirmed the second would be coming in August, put out a letter letting locals know when scenes would be shot.

Big Boys, which made its way onto our screens in May last year, is loosely based on the life of show creator and comedian Jack Rooke, who grew up in Rickmansworth, and his experiences in university.

Filming for the second series started this month and it is set to be broadcast later this year.

Today’s filming is described as “quite minimal” and will take place between 3pm and 8pm.

It will start in the café before moving out onto the high street for a “walk and talk” scene from 6.30pm. The café will close at 3pm.

Technical vehicles will also be using the long-stay car park in the road, with security on set.

Channel 4’s letter also asked for anyone interested in getting involved to get in touch and it put out a request for an additional location to hire for the cast to sit in nearby.

Scenes for the first series were shot in Watford, Mill End, Harrow, and Stanmore, with the finale described as “bit of a love letter to Watford”.

The show takes inspiration from real-life diary recordings Jack made when he was younger and reflects how he came to terms with losing his father and becoming comfortable with his sexuality.

Speaking to the Watford Observer last year, Jack said: “Sometimes I think Watford gets a bit of a bad rep, and I really wanted to celebrate Watford for what it does have.”

In real life, Jack attended St Clement Danes in Chorleywood before studying at the University of Westminster in Harrow, rather than the fictional Brent university featured in the show.
