The finishing touches are being put on an Indian grocery ahead of opening day this weekend after a £150,000 refurb.

MiniIndia in Queen’s Road, Watford, shared an inside look before it welcomes customers for the first time on Saturday (June 3).

A café is also set to open in the former Marketplace Group building, which had been vacant since a move to The Parade, but this will be coming later on.

Owner Niraj Shah said: “We are really excited to open in Watford and we are looking forward to seeing everyone.”

The £150,000 work included completely redoing the flooring and ceiling as well as converting the former offices into a grocery store.

Mr Shah added: “It was hard work and has taken time, but we are ultimately at the end and we are excited to see how it goes.”

Speaking to the Watford Observer in March, ahead of the refurbishment, he explained that MiniIndia prides itself on selling all the ingredients, drinks, and spices customers might want, including rare Indian spices you are unlikely to find elsewhere.

Mr Shah also owns a location in Pinner, which is roughly half the size of the Watford store. He said Watford was “always the preferred location”, but he could never find the right place in the past.
