A newly opened High Street café is gearing up to get more involved in the community.

Café De Lisboa opened in the former Piranha Comics unit in The Parade, Watford, on September 23 and has since attracted 16 five-star reviews and one four-star on Google Reviews.

With the pastel de natas flying off the shelves, Aamir Ramos told the Watford Observer that more is planned.

Rainbow Home Care Services hosted its first Coffee & Chat Morning for over-50s at the café on October 11, with another being lined up for next month due to its success, Aamir revealed.

The co-owner, alongside his wife Ana, added that they will be getting involved in Winterfest, which will be just outside the location on November 18, and will stay open later for Cassiobury Fireworks on November 4.

“We are looking forward to being more involved and are looking to help people to feel able to come,” Aamir said. “If anyone is unsure if we are able to give them a hand, we will always be happy to give five minutes of our time or just have a chat.”

Some of the most regular customers so far have been older people, who have apparently appreciated the extra care and help from staff.

Although it has not been posted online yet, the café is expecting a 5/5 food hygiene rating to be revealed soon after an inspection last week, as businesses find out beforehand.

From next week, Café De Lisboa’s coffees and treats will be available on Deliveroo. Adding more delivery apps to this is on the agenda, as is responding to one big area of customer demand.

“So many people say 'it is such a good location please, please, please put some chairs outside',” he said, adding that customers particularly want to enjoy the sound of the town's pond.

Ahead of opening, the business was told it would not be possible, despite "trying our hardest". However, Watford mayor Peter Taylor is apparently set to visit soon, and Aamir has promised he will try again for permission to put a few chairs outside.

Finally, the menu is also set for an expansion with more sandwiches and paninis to be added soon.
