Autumn is upon us, with the weather turning colder and nights getting longer.

It is still a good time of year to be outside, despite the slightly chillier winds and rain, so wrap up warm and head out into the amazing green spaces we have near Watford.

Here is a list of five of the best walks in and around the area which are perfect for getting out in autumn.

Aldenham Country Park

One of Watford’s most loved outdoor spaces, which has various trails, a farm and the 100 Aker Wood which is a perfect stroll for all the family.

The park is 100 acres and has a café on site to grab a bite to eat, as well as a car park for easy access to the site.

Verulamium Park

Not far from Watford, this walk involves a park full of St Albans' historic Roman buildings and a model boating lake.

Even though it is just over a 20-minute drive from Watford Junction station, the park has plenty of things to do and see as well as parking close by.

Bishop’s Wood Country Park

Located in Rickmansworth, this park is 38 hectares, and 1.5 miles of paths in the woods link to the London Outer Orbital Path.

There is a route in the park for horse riders as well as a car park and picnic area.

Munden Estate

This estate in Radlett provides six miles of footpaths for the public to access and a bridle path for horses to use.

It has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and can be easily reached from the centre of Watford.

Cassiobury Park and Grand Union Canal

This is a two-mile walk which can take just over an hour to complete.

You will pass through Cassiobury Park, which is very much loved by Watford residents, as well as the houseboats on the canal.

The walk begins at the entrance near the junction of Langley Way and ends at Parkside Drive.
