A planning application to extend a retail unit’s opening hours confirms Starbucks has leased the space.

The proposal to Watford Borough Council asks for permission to open the former Chiquito’s restaurant in Woodside Leisure Centre from 6am instead of 8am.

Permission for the restaurant to be subdivided into two units was granted in September last year. Nando’s has confirmed it will be moving in to run the larger part and an application to display signage indicated Starbucks would run the other.

However, the Starbucks franchisee that made the proposal said it was not in a position to discuss the plan when asked for confirmation it would open there.

Yesterday’s proposal does, however, clearly state that it has leased the space to provide Starbucks coffee in Watford.

It said: “The former Chiquito’s Restaurant has recently been permitted to be subdivided to two units that have been agreed to be leased to Nando’s and Starbucks.

“The Starbucks unit requires the change in operation hours.”

It aims to open to customers from 6.30am Monday to Friday, 7am on Saturday and 8am on Sundays and bank holidays, according to the plan, and intends to target commuters on their way to work as its customer base during the earlier hours.
