A new pub and restaurant promising live music and dancing is opening in The Parade.

Last week, the owners of new business Desi Thekka announced that it is “coming soon” to the former Thekaa, Marcel's, and Bar Bodega unit in the high street.

Although it shares a similar name with the bar it replaces, it is run by new owners and with a new vision.

Co-owner Nishan Patel confirmed that customers who come by now will be able to order drinks, but the full opening with all improvements complete and the kitchen up-and-running is targeted for the bank-holiday weekend.

Desi Thekka aims to offer a mix of pub classics alongside favourite Indian dishes on its menu.

Its advertisements so far promise events including live music and dancing, which will apparently bring the location "back to life".

The venue will host an Aura Soul event with live DJs on Saturday, June 14, and rock band The Slaves have been confirmed as playing the venue on July 18.

Pub quizzes, ladies nights, and further live music are also in the works.

The opening hours are listed as 10am to midnight Monday to Thursday, 10am to 1.30am Friday and Saturday, and 12pm to 11.30pm on Sundays.

Thekaa closed at the end of March amid financial pressures after around 20 months in operation.

The venue had previously been operated as Marcel’s from 2021 to 2023 and Bar Bodega prior to that.
