The final day for a highly rated pub has been set after customers were devastated to hear of its closure.
When owner Greene King confirmed reports that The Southern Cross, in Langley Road, Watford, would be closing it only said this would come some time before the end of the year.
However, the Watford Observer now understands it is not far away at all and will come on February 26.
It had initially been rumoured that the closure would be on a day February, but this was not previously confirmed.
Explaining the decision to close the venue at the time, the brewery said it was not an easy one and “multiple factors” were considered.
A spokesperson added: “We are aware that this will be disappointing news to the local community and our loyal customers and would like to thank those who have enjoyed visiting us over the years.
“The team at The Southern Cross has been notified, and we are currently working with team members to find alternative roles at our other pubs in the local area where possible.”

The Southern Cross is Watford’s second-highest rated pub on Tripadvisor - just behind The Tudor Arms - with a score of 4.2 stars. It also doubles as a hotel with 10 rooms.
No information has been provided on any future plans for the site after the pub shuts but it is understood to be a permanent closure.
Residents have described the news as “so sad” and “awful news”, highlighting the long history of the location as a hotel and pub serving the Nascot community.
