I was disappointed to read that councillors have decided not to support a complete ban on pavement parking (Debate on pavement parking but no ban, Watford Observer, September 13). Inconsiderate drivers not only force pedestrians onto the road but driving on the pavement is dangerous for everyone.

Heavy cars and vans damage the pavements causing unevenness and trip hazards.
Councillors, themselves, are partly responsible for this parking problem by allowing blocks of flats to be built with no parking spaces. Unless public transport is improved in and around Watford, people will still ‘need’ their cars and park where ever they can.
If London can prohibit pavement parking I am sure that Watford can.
