Joao Pedro, Troy Deeney and Luther Blissett are among those to share their support to a die-hard Watford FC fan hospitalised from Covid-19.

Danny Clavin, who has supported the Hornets nearly all of his life, is currently recovering from the virus after he was admitted to hospital nearly a week ago.

His family were “dreading the worst” and feared that he would not make it due to his severe asthma – but things are starting to look up and Mr Clavin appears to be pulling through.

Danielle Clavin, who initially thought the news might have been a joke, was shocked by the sudden hospitalisation.

And while there were dire thoughts initially, Mr Clavin has started to perk up after various members from Watford FC have come together to show their love and support.

Back in a game against Manchester United in December 2019, Mr Clavin managed to secure himself seats at the corporate box and encountered Pedro. Excitedly, he phoned his daughter to say he was next to the young new player.

Since it was “freezing cold”, Mr Clavin offered his gloves to Pedro to keep him warm – and the encounter happened to be recorded.

After hearing the news that Mr Clavin is in hospital, Pedro shared out a video wishing for his recovery, and sharing that he still remembers and has kept the gloves.

Speaking on their encounter, his daughter said: “It was pot-luck. He’s someone who doesn’t usually get star-struck, but he was proper chuffed and said, ‘I can sense this is going to be a good player’ and that he got a good vibe off him.”

Describing her father as a dell-boy, she said that Mr Clavin is someone who “makes such an impression” and cannot be forgotten, clearly the impression with Pedro lasted for him to issue the heart-warming video.

Other Watford FC members also shared their support, with Troy Deeney sending over a signed shirt and Watford legend Luther Blissett also sending out a message.

Ms Clavin said: “It’s just heart-warming to know that his local club is behind him. It does make you feel better and I can’t imagine how my dad feels right now.

“I’ve always loved Watford, since the day I was born, but since the last few days my love for the club has expanded and I didn’t think it could. But now I’ve experienced the feeling of a family club, and this situation just proved it.”

She explained it was difficult to hear her father, who normally is quite positive, sound so scared. And while she says it broke her heart, she was astounded by the care he received from the NHS.

“I salute the doctor and nurses for taking care of him,” she said.

“I cannot thank the NHS enough for looking after my dad and everyone. They are brushed under the carpet, and now that I’ve experienced them personally, I can’t thank them enough. For putting up my dad – you deserve a pay rise!”
