A public art permanent memorial in respect to the lives lost during the Covid-19 pandemic is still set to be placed outside Watford General Hospital - despite delays.
It was announced in December 2020 that Watford Borough Council was looking to commission a memorial sculpture placed by the main entrance of the hospital.
The idea for the memorial is to reflect how Watford came together during the pandemic to help one another, and to pay tribute to the patients and NHS workers who died from the virus.
It was earmarked to be in place around April or May, but an arts development officer at the council has now confirmed that the project has been slightly delayed due to the ongoing pandemic and current lockdown restrictions.
While an artist was originally expected to be assigned by January 2021, the council has still not decided on which artist will direct the project.
It is now hoped that an artist will be assigned by the end of March before further work can go ahead.
The permanent memorial is still expected to be placed outside the hospital at some point this year.
