Fears of nuclear war have been heightened by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and potential escalation to an even wider direct conflict between Russia and NATO.

Non-profit media group Outrider has shown that Watford is well within the impacted area of an attack on London.

An attack on the centre of London using 'Tsar Bomba', the largest Russian bomb ever detonated, would produce 4,680,520 fatalities and 3,004,457 injuries. Though Watford is within the heat blast zone it would escape the fireball, shock wave and radiation.

During the cold war London, Manchester, and Glasgow were among the government's expected targets and London was projected to suffer multiple blasts.

Areas outside London are, of course, less densely populated and so less likely targets for civilian targetted weapons. A bomb dropped directly on Watford would still cause 1,370,060 fatalities and 3,601,316 injuries, as much of London would escape the shock wave.
