A man who was caught with a 'zombie' knife in front of children has been jailed for the impact he had on those who witnessed him.

Kurosh Salimi, 30, of no fixed address, was arrested for possession of a blade in Park Avenue, Watford, last Friday, July 1.

The next day, Saturday July 2, he admitted to possession of the zombie knife in a public place and without good reason.

He was then sent to prison for one year at St Albans Magistrates’ court.

A zombie knife is a bladed weapon inspired by zombie apocalypse films, and often have long blades with serrated edges and words etched onto them.

Salimi, who is also known under the aliases Abdul Salim and John Sweeney, has also been ordered to pay a victim’s services surcharge of £187.

Salimi’s guilty plea was considered when imposing a sentence, but he was given one year in prison and fined, which is the highest sentence a magistrate’s court can impose.

The yearlong sentence was decided on due to the severity of the offence, the nature of the blade, the time of day of the offence, the nearby children, and the impact it had on witnesses.
