A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnap after several reports of families being approached in St Albans.

Over Wednesday and Thursday a man had allegedly been approaching families with kids and trying to engage them in conversation.

Herts Police said an arrest was made yesterday following a “further incident” in Victoria Park, but initially declined to provide more detail.

This morning a spokesperson said: “A 25-year-old male, of no fixed address, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of attempted kidnap.

“No child was harmed, touched, interfered with in anyway during the incident prior to the arrest.”

The man is currently still in custody as enquiries continue.

Detective constable Adam Haines said: “I fully understand that incidents of this nature cause a great deal of concern among local communities.

“Thanks to the vigilance of members of the public, officers were able to attend and make a swift arrest.”

He added: “We would like to hear from anyone who may have been approached in suspicious circumstances over the past couple of days, or who has witnessed anyone acting suspiciously around the St Albans area.”
