Two teenagers have been arrested after a large tower block fire caused the building to be evacuated.

The two boys remain in police custody in connection with the investigation into fire at Abbey View, Meriden, this morning.

Police have said both boys were arrested on suspicion of arson.

Police say they were called at 4.50am to the fire which began in a bin in the tower block’s bin store.

No casualties have been reported but minor smoke inhalation injuries are being treated.

Residents of the building were evacuated and police closed the road this morning.

Police, ambulance and fire services arrived at the scene quickly according to neighbours.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated by Hertfordshire Police.

Eight fire engines were called to put out the fire.

Police are encouraging anyone with information that could assist the investiagtion to contact police on 101 quoting reference ISR 90 of 12 July, 2022.
