A dog lunged at a 10-year-old boy and bit him in Potters Bar – sparking Herts Police to appeal for help tracing the owner.

The child was walking across a pelican crossing with his mum in Cranborne Road when they were approached by an unknown man with a dog on a lead.

The dog then launched itself at the boy and bit him on the thigh – leaving him injured.

Police say the man then walked off without leaving details.

The dog was described as “large” and brown/ginger, though the breed is unknown, while the man was 5ft 11, slim and around 20 years old.

He was wearing a black T-shirt, a blue unbuttoned shirt over the top and blue shorts.

Following the attack at around 12.15pm on Saturday, June 25, police today (July 27) appealed for help tracing the owner.

PC Robert Jowett said: “This was a very distressing incident for the boy and his mother.

“We’ve been conducting several enquiries in the local area to try and trace the dog and the man involved, including house to house visits and reviewing any CCTV opportunities, but these have so far proved unsuccessful.

“We’re now asking the wider public for assistance.”
