Over a hundred people have expressed their sadness online after a popular homemade food shop has shut.

The Chipperfield Larder has closed its doors after decades offering fresh homemade food each day for customers to eat in store or take home.

Vas, the owner, had been managing the larder for 20 years, but says a food shop had occupied the building, under different names, since as early as 1908.

He thanked staff members Georgina, Molly, Sue, Sarah, and Abbi for their support.

He particularly wanted to thank Georgina and Molly who had worked at the larder for over a decade.

Following the announcement on Facebook, customers took to the comments expressing their love of the store, and their sadness at the closure.

One customer said: “This is indeed sad news. 

“The larder has been the place I've felt the most welcome.”

Another comment said: “The village will miss your wonderful store.”

Another added: “Chipperfield won’t be the same without the Larder, how will my son live without having the best scotch eggs in the world?”
